SRI Chat - Socially Responsible Investing
Subject: Total Market SRI Fund

Wouldn't it be great news if one of the SRI funds came out with a "Total Market" (all-in-one fund) equivalent to the Wilshire 5000 market index. Vanguard or TIAA-CREF would be the ideal candidates since they sport the lowest (and most reasonable) fee structures for keeping overall cost down. The closest funds we have to choose from currently is Domini Social Equity, Citizens Index, Vanguard-Calvert Social Index, and TIAA-CREF Social Choice. The preceeding funds tend to mimic the SP500 index. Unfortunately, Domini and Citizens have outrageously high expenses, including the nefarious, perpetual 12b1 marketing fees. P.S. Here's my message to Domini, Citizens, and all the other SRI funds which impose high expense fees, and especially those 12b1's : Shape up, or lose your business to Vanguard and TIAA-CREF. After all, especially in a downward trending market, EXPENSES DO MATTER. Any comments?
