SRI Chat - Socially Responsible Investing
Subject: Re: What should a new SRI fund offer?

I find that nearly all Socially Responsible funds are willing to avoid investments in tobacco. There are very few, however, that are willing to exclude completely investments in "sin stocks" ie those in the Defense, Alcohol, and Gambling Industries. Most funds will exclude one or two of these, but not all and in many cases these exclussions allow for companies to derive as much as 4% of their revenues from these industries. This allows for diversified companies such as G.E., which plays an important role in the building of Military Airplanes to be part of the portfolio.
