SRI Chat - Socially Responsible Investing
Subject: Re: What should a new SRI fund offer?

Personally, I am disturbed at how little attention is given to the business ethics of companies as an SRI screening factor. For example, I find it disturbing that so many SRI funds invest in Microsoft. If acting as a monopolistic bully, supressing competition, and refusing to employ a large portion of your work force (thus avoiding paying them your generous benefits package) isn't socially irresponsible, what is?

The fundmental purpose of business is to conduct business; if they don't do THAT ethically, how responsible are they, no matter how much they recycle or promote women/minorities, or what have you?
