Dear Pete,
Clearly no one screen can satisfy everyone. But what we seem to have now is 'Fund families' of five, ten, or more funds that are balanced in different ways. We as investors go out shopping for a best-fit fund, but often that fit isn't very close. By creating a single fund with certain modifiable parameters, the management is essentially creating a large 'fund family' with a consolidated core and progressively more independent fringes. This gives the investors a better chance to find a close fit to their values without spending years fund-shopping, and at the same time it attracts investors to the fund out of convenience.
