Church in the City Gets New Home
In 2008, MHCLF made a loan to church in the city to aid with the acquisition and renovation of
the historic BHC synagogue and the adjacent school building. These building have now become the
permanent new home for the organization, an important service provider in the local community.
Both the congregation and the community came together in an effort to save the building that had
been vacant for years. Volunteers worked tirelessly for hours to transform the building and allow
Church in the City to expand its services.
Church in the City is one of the most
economically and ethnically diverse congregations in Denver. The church has specialized programs
for low-income individuals, youth, and developmentally challenged individuals. A newly restored
kitchen also allows to church to serve free meals to over 200 people, most of whom are homeless.
Pastor Michael Walker says, "This is a place for all people of all nations."
