Founded in 1995, Central de Piurana de Cafetaleros (CEPICAFE), is a Fair Trade cooperative and "second level" processing and marketing organization comprised of small-scale coffee producers in Northern Peru. CEPICAFE warehouses, mills, markets, and exports certified-organic, Fair Trade, and gourmet coffee in the U.S. and Europe. The cooperative consists of 90 grassroots organizations with more than 6,600 producers located on the western slopes of the Andes Mountains in Piura.

and exports certified-organic, Fair Trade, and gourmet coffee to the U.S. and Europe. CEPICAFE has
managed to position its coffee in the principal high-quality markets: organic, fair trade,
sustainable and gourmet, in various European and Northern American countries. Also, CEPICAFE is
developing a credit system in order to improve agricultural activity, especially for the coffee
production and the diversification of products such as the sugar cane. The credits are to
sustainability, pre-harvest, family support, and medium and long term. Other of CEPICAFE's services
is training through strategic alliance with NGO Pidecafe.
- CEPICAFE offers "alternative
tourism" tours to some of their coffee and sugar growers. Tourism activities support social
projects such as women's weaving associations, as well as ecological projects such as
reforestation. The activities aim at diversifying income generating methods in this rural
CEPICAFE represents over 6,500 coffee, sugar, and fruit producers grouped in 90 separate organizations in Northwestern Peru. Members grow coffee in the highlands of northwest Peru, and all CEPICAFE's coffee is grown by family units.
CEPICAFE promotes sustainable development while improving the quality of life of members of the cooperative. The cooperative continues to contribute to the eradication of poverty and the welfare of the regions it serves.
