September 17, 2008 Dow Jones Sustainability Index Updated     by Robert Kropp Dow Jones Sustainability World Index lists 320 corporate sustainability leaders, up from 312 in 2007. SocialFunds.com -- Using updated sustainability scores derived from economic, environmental, and social metrics, SAM Group and Dow Jones Indexes have completed their annual review of the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World). Following SAM�s latest global analysis of corporate sustainability leadership, 33 companies will join the index, while 25 firms will be deleted � increasing the number of components to 320 from 312. The Index, started in 1999, is weighted based on market capitalization, and changes are made every September based on the newest sustainability scores. The annual review is based on an analysis of corporate economic, environmental and social performance, and assesses corporate governance, risk management, branding, climate change mitigation, supply chain standards and labor practices. The index addresses general and industry-specific sustainability criteria for each of 58 industries. Of the 33 companies newly added to DJSI World, five are headquartered in the United States: Invitrogen, Nalco Holding, Plum Creek Timber, ProLogis, and Symantec.
